Game Summary

The Patriots got 2007 started on the right foot with a 5 - 0 blanking of Middletown in the D-I East league opener for both teams. John Pedrotty and John Sleeper combined to no-hit the Islanders for seven innings, while both also played a major role in keying the Patriots offense. Pedrotty, who was making his first ever Varsity start on the mound, pitched five strong innings, allowing no hits or runs, while walking two, and striking out seven Islanders. Sleeper came on in relief to start the sixth inning and also held Middletown hitless in is two innings of work, while walking two to pick up the save. The Pats played strong defensively, making only two errors on the 16 balls that were put in play by Middletown. Offensively, the Patriots banged out 11 hits and walked 5 times. They also were 7-for-7 on the day in stolen base attempts, leading to many of the Patriots' runs. Pedrotty keyed the offense, going 4-for-4, driving in 2 runs, and stealing a base. Sleeper chipped in with a 2-for-4 day, with a run scored and two runs driven in. Brian Shelburne added two hits and a stolen base in his first ever Varsity start, and Nick Grande (1 RBI), Adam Reece (1 SB), and Ryan Westmoreland (2 R, 2 SB) added a hit a piece. The Patriots return to action on Thursday April 5, playing their home opener at Bob Crudup Field against Moses Brown. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
