Game Summary

The Patriots mounted a late rally, scoring seven times in the top of the 7th inning, to go on to a 10 - 4 victory over Barrington on Monday. With the win, the Patriots improve to 8 - 0 in D-I East. The win was not without adversity. Starting pitcher John Pedrotty was forced to leave the game in the 4th inning after being struck by a line drive in the left shoulder in the 3rd inning. Brian Shelburne came on in relief, and in his first career Varsity league appearance, was outstanding. Shelburne pitched 4 innings of 2-hit relief, allowing 1 run, walking 1, and striking out 3. The Patriots offense waited until the 7th inning to explode. After Shelburne led off with his second hit of the day, Matt Billington reached on an error. Barrington summoned Jimmy Ray from the bullpen. Ray promptly walked Jimmy Houk to load the bases, then Adam Reece, forcing in Brian Shelburne with the tying run. Ryan Westmoreland followed with a line single to right, driving in pinch runner Danny Dugan, and pinch runner Jared Winston to give the Patriots a 6 - 4 lead. The Patriots would tack on four more runs on RBI singles by John Sleeper and John Pedrotty, and a two-run single by Shelburne. Shelburne then unceremoniously retired the Eagles in the 7th, preserving the win for Portsmouth. The Patriots will travel to Cranston on Tuesday for a 4:00 PM game against 9 - 0 Cranston West.
