Game Summary |
The Patriots ran their league record to 10 -
0, sending a message that they are legitimate state title
contenders in the process, with a thrilling 5 - 4 victory over
perennial Rhode Island power Bishop Hendricken. Ryan Westmoreland
went the distance for the Patriots, scattering seven hits while
striking out eleven Hawks on the afternoon. Offensively, the
teams traded jabs for most of the game, with Hendricken holding
a 4 - 3 lead entering the bottom of the 6th inning. After
Hendricken starter, David Palms, retired the first two Patriot
hitters in the 6th, Jimmy Ayars drew a walk. Westmoreland then
drove an RBI double to the gap in right centerfield, plating
Ayars and knotting the score at 4. Adam Reece followed
Westmoreland with an RBI single to right center, scoring
Westmoreland and giving the Patriots the late advantage at 5 -
4. In the 7th, Westmoreland struck out three Hawks, with a walk
and an error mixed in, stranding the potential tying and go
ahead runs at second and third. The Patriots will return to
action on Saturday, playing a non-league contest at North
Providence at 6:30 PM. |
