Coach Ulmschneider begins his 9th season at the Patriots’ helm.
Coach Ulmschneider is a graduate of Tiverton High School, where
he was a member of a baseball team which posted a combined
overall 35 – 6 record in his junior and senior years. He was
named the Head Coach of the Patriots in 2000, after 7 seasons as
an assistant coach at his alma mater. During his time at PHS,
the Patriots have posted a record of 138 – 53 and a .723 winning
percentage. Ten of his former players have gone on to play collegiately at such schools as Brandeis University, Rhode
Island College, Endicott College, Southern Connecticut State
University, Stonehill College, Clark University, Western New
England College, Bryant University, Dean College, and the
Community College of Rhode Island. Coach Ulmschneider’s teams
have appeared in the playoffs in all 8 seasons of his tenure,
including three appearances in the State Championship Series
(2005, 2006, and 2007) and a State Championship win (2006). In
2007, he led the Patriots to their first-ever national ranking
by the staff of Baseball America and the National High School
Baseball Coaches Association. In recognition of his efforts, he
was selected as the American Baseball Coaches Association
Division III High School Baseball Coach of the Year for Region
1. Coach Ulmschneider also is the Manager of the Tom’s Lawn &
Garden/Portsmouth Post 18 American Legion Baseball Team, a post
he has held since 1998. In addition, he has been an invited
clinician at several summer baseball camps throughout the area.
He is the President of the Rhode Island Baseball Coaches
Association, and the Chairman of the National High School
Baseball Coaches Association’s District I Groundskeeper/Field of
the Year and Coach of the Year Committees. Coach Ulmschneider
lives in Tiverton with his wife, Sue, and their daughter,
Allison. |

Coach
Campion is in his 13th year as a member of the
Portsmouth Baseball Staff, making him the longest tenured coach
on the staff. He has served in just about every capacity
imaginable, from JV Head Coach (1996 – 1999), Varsity co-Head
Coach (1998), Freshmen Head Coach (2000 – 2007), and this year
adds Freshmen Assistant Coach to his resume. Coach Campion has
been an intregal part of the rise and success of the program in
his time at PHS, as he has been a part of 12 consecutive Varsity
playoff appearances (1996 – 2007), including 4 appearances in
the Varsity State Championship Series (1999, 2005, 2006, 2007)
and 2 Varsity State Championships (1999, 2006). He has also
coached his Freshmen teams to State Championships in 2005 and
2007. A Physical Education teacher at Portsmouth High School,
Coach Campion lives in Portsmouth with his wife, Michelle, and
his three children, Matthew, Ashley and Alexa Rose. |

Coach
Westmoreland is in his 3rd year on the PHS Baseball
Staff. His responsibilities include acting as the program’s
Pitching Coordinator as well as assisting with all aspects of
the Varsity team. A graduate of Rogers High School, Coach
Westmoreland went on to pitch for Eckerd College in St.
Petersburg, FL. Upon the conclusion of his playing days, he
immediately began coaching, serving in such capacities as the
Head JV Coach at Eckerd, Assistant Coach at Tiverton High
School, and, in 2002, managed the Portsmouth Little League
12-Year Old All Stars to the championship game of the Little
League Eastern Regional, one game away from the Little League
World Series. In addition, he has coached in the Donnelly Sunset
League, Portsmouth Babe Ruth League, and various AAU programs
throughout the area. He is also an Owner/Treasurer of the
Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
Coach Westmoreland is certainly one of the most respected
coaches in our area, as he was selected as the 2007 National
High School Baseball Coaches Association’s District I Assistant
Coach of the Year. He lives in Portsmouth with his wife, Robin,
and their children, Sarah and Ryan. |

MICHAEL
BOTELHO |
JUNIOR VARSITY |

Coach Botelho returns for his
2nd year as the JV Head Coach. He also serves as a
Varsity Assistant Coach. Coach Botelho graduated from Portsmouth
High School in 2000, where he was selected Second Team All-State
in 1999, in leading the Patriots to their first State
Championship. In 2000, he was awarded the prestigious Crudup-Picard
Scholarship by the PHS Athletic Department, one of the highest
honors given to a PHS athlete. Coach Botelho went on to pitch at
Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. Along the way, in 2001, he
was a member of the very first Newport Gulls team to win an
NECBL Championship. In his first season coaching, Coach Botelho
did a phenomenal job, leading the JV squad to its League
Championship and an appearance in the JV State Final Four. He is
single and resides in Portsmouth. |

Coach DeMarco is in his 2nd
season as a member of the PHS Baseball Staff, and his 1st
as the Freshmen Head Coach. He is a graduate of Lincoln (RI)
High School and Rhode Island College, where he earned his B.S.
in Physical Education. Coach DeMarco has been a Physical
Education/Health Teacher at Portsmouth High School since 2004-05
and in that time, he has served as an Assistant Coach in both
the PHS Football and Outdoor Track programs. In his first year
in 2007, Coach DeMarco helped to lead the PHS Freshmen team to
its 2nd State Championship in three years. He lives
in North Providence RI with his wife, Sherry, and their
daughter, Brooke. |

BRYAN
KRINER |

Coach
Kriner begins his coaching career in 2008. His primary duties
include assisting Coach Botelho with all aspects of the JV team,
as well as assisting with and scouting for the Varsity team. A
2007 graduate of Portsmouth Abbey, Coach Kriner excelled in both
hockey and baseball. He is the all-time leading scorer in the
history of the Portsmouth Abbey Hockey Program and was a
multiple-time All-State selection in hockey and baseball. In
2007 – 08, Coach Kriner signed with and played for the Boston
Junior Bruins of the Eastern Junior Hockey League, the top
junior hockey league on the east coast and one of the best in
North America. He will be attending Curry College in the Fall of
2008, where he will play hockey and baseball. He lives in
Newport, RI.
