Jimmy and I went up
to see the Portland Sea Dogs last weekend. Jimmy stayed with John
Otness and Andrew Pickney (3rd baseman) Friday and Saturday. Friday
night we watched them play and then had dinner with Brian Pritz
(outfield, stayed with us 5 years ago) and John. On Saturday they took
Jimmy along to the field where they dressed him in a Seadogs uniform
(Arroyos pants, new shirt and turf shoes), and let him shag during bp
and watch as John and Brian hit. The red sox roving infield instructor
happened to be there and invited him to take infield so he was able to
take about 20 grounders at short from the instructor with Iggy Suarez
cheering him on. Jimmy hung around in the clubhouse between bp and the
game (about 2 hours) showered and came out with an armful of gear then
we watched a double header. I picked Jimmy up from the apartment on
Sunday and headed home. Overall a great weekend, and pretty fortunate
as John said Jimmy was the only non-player to do that this season. The
Portland boys are tired, wishing they were making more money ($1500 per
month, in season) but still have the dream. (Brian played in Pawtucket
this summer and is 8th in their division in batting average).
